UJOP A2 Exam Format Explained
UJOP — the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of Charles University — sets the standard format used for the Czech A2 permanent-residence exam. Knowing the exact format saves you time on exam day. Here is what each task type looks like and how the answers are recorded.
Standard task types
Reading uses single-choice (A/B/C/D), true/false, and matching tasks based on short authentic texts: notices, ads, forms, short articles. Listening uses similar question types but based on dialogues, announcements, and short monologues — each audio is played twice. Writing typically asks for a 25–40-word short message and a 60–80-word personal text. Speaking has three short stages: warm-up questions, picture description, and a role-play.
Answer sheets and recording
Reading and Listening answers go on a separate paper answer sheet (záznamový arch). Mark them carefully — only the answer sheet is graded, not the question booklet. Writing is hand-written on a designated form; legibility matters. Speaking is recorded for review by examiners; you cannot bring notes.
How CzechReady mirrors the UJOP format
Every CzechReady task uses UJOP-style question types, instructions, and timing. Mock exams reproduce the exact structure: same number of tasks per section, same number of questions, same total time. Practising in this format means no surprises on the actual day — the only difference is that you mark answers on screen instead of paper.
Frequently asked questions
Are UJOP and other accredited centres’ exams identical?
They follow the same Ministry-approved framework, so the level and structure are equivalent. Slight wording differences in tasks are normal.
Do I have to write in Czech only?
Yes. The Writing section must be in Czech. Notes in another language are not accepted.
Can I see sample tasks before the exam?
Yes. UJOP publishes sample tests, and CzechReady offers free Reading and Listening tasks in the same format.
